Presented is an antique set of 9 American coin silver dinner forks made during the early to mid 1800s. This 19th century set is done in a classic, Beaded Edge pattern. All of the forks have a finely hand engraved crest of an elephant with a snake or serpent wrapped around its trunk. This set is a matched marriage of 3 and 6 forks that are slightly different as far as the tip of the handle and crest goes, which you can see in the photographs. These forks are very heavy. The back of 3 handles are marked Freeman & Bennett and the other 6 are marked for Jones, Ball & Co. All are nitric acid tested and guaranteed to be 900 purity, coin purity silver. Jones Ball and Co. Of Boston was only in business from 1853 to 1855. This partnership changes several times before becoming Shreve, Crump and Low in the 1860s. I believe that Freeman and Bennett were based in Philadelphia and were in business in the 1830s. This set is in great condition for its age. The 3 Freeman & Bennett forks have wear and knife marks to their tines, as you can see in the first photograph. Powered by SixBit’s eCommerce Solution.
