BRITISH INDIA 1911 KING GEORGE V ONE RUPEE RARE SILVER COIN. Crowned head of George V facing left. GEORGE V KING EMPEROR. Within circle, date divides legend in English & Urdu (Yek Rupya). Outside circle, wreath made of roses, thistle, shamrock leaves and lotus flowers. All within a toothed border. ONE RUPEE INDIA 1911?? The King is shown wearing a robe with a small elephant on it. This elephant was thought to resemble a pig with the trunk appearing to be a pig snout and the short legs not appearing very elephant-like. This offended the religious sensibilities of many, so most of the Rupees minted for 1911 were withheld from circulation and later melted. From 1912 onwards, the coins had a redesigned elephant. No mint mark – Calcutta mint – Image shows location of mint mark near bottom of reverse for Bombay mint.
