47 46 B. C. Roman Republic Coin Q. M. Scipio Ceasar African Mint Anacs Vf 20
47 – 46 B. ROMAN REPUBLIC COIN Q. SCIPIO DENARIUS AFRICAN MINT ANACS VERY FINE 20. SCIPIO WAS AN ENEMY OF JULIUS CEASAR. HE SELF PROCLAIMED HIMSELF RULER OF THE ROMAN REPUBLIC, (sound familiar, some things never change) WITH HIS WEALTH, LEGIONS AND WARSHIPS, WHERE HE SAILED THE MEDITEREAN CONQUERING WHATEVER HE COULD. HE MINTED HIS OWN COINS AS TO CERTIFY HE WAS THE RULER OF ROME EMIPER (IMP). HE WAS DEFEATED BY JULIUS CEASARS LEGIONS IN 46 B. WHERE HE IN TURN TOOK HIS OWN LIFE. OBVERSE OF COIN DEPICTS PORTRAIT OF JUPITER FACING RIGHT. REVERSE OF COIN DEPICTS AFRICAN ELEPHANT IN CENTER WITH THE WORDS OF SCIPIO NAME CLEARLY SEEN ABOVE THE ELEPHANT, IMP (EMPEROR) BELOW ELEPHANT’S FEET (mocking Julius Ceasar who also had the elephant put on his coins). HE WAS THE GRANDSON OF SCIPIO AFRICANUS WHO DEFEATED HANNIBAL appx. DIFFICULT COIN TO FIND ESPECIALLY WITH SO MUCH DETAIL REMAINING. THE COIN HAS SMALL CHIP BELOW NECK OF JUPITER AND IS HARDLY NOTICEABLE. THIS COIN IS FOR IS FOR THE MOST AVANT COLLECTORS OF ROMAN COINAGE, IT IS QUITE SCARCE. A GREAT RELIC OF HISTORY FOR A COIN TO BE 2,066 YEARS OLD. REMEMBER THIS COIN IS AUTHENTICATED, BE VERY WEARY THERE ARE GOOD FAKES OUT THERE.
